The Weather Within

15 hours . 10 weeks . countless life lessons

We are, each of us, a complex weave—emotional, physiological, psychological and spiritual beings, and the world in which we find ourselves today offers many and varied challenges to each and all of these layers of self.

‘The Weather Within’ poses the deceptively simple questions:

How well do we know ourselves?

From where does this information come?

And, what experience are you having that’s getting in the way of the experience you want?

This course is divided into five modules which explore five separate fields of experienceeach one representing an aspect of being human. It is offered on a 1:1, couples or small group basis.

The quality, and depth, of our relationship to ourselves determines the quality and depth of our relationship to everyone, and everything, else.

  • How willing are we to feel what there is to be felt?

  • How often do we choose to avoid or suppress ?

  • How attuned are we to the changing weather patterns within us?

By utilising the nervous system regulation that we will practice throughout this course, we will be able to turn towards that which we typically avoid, and from there—disrupt constrictive behavioural patterns.

The Weather Within seeks to deepen intimacy with ourselves so that we can experience more ease, and have a greater understanding of what shapes our perceptions and behaviours.

Overview

Module One: the core self

Self-regulation and self-awareness

In part one we will look at how we relate to, and experience, ourselves.

You will develop a familiarity with the sometimes subtle language of the nervous system by actively ‘listening’ to the signals (felt as sensations) that are sent from the body to the brain.

The distinctive features of our inner landscape include; sensations, feelings/emotions, impulses, intuition, instincts, thoughts, beliefs, dreams and sensate memories.

We will ask:

  • what is your felt sense experience of each aspect of the emotional spectrum?

  • what is the relationship between our emotions and the autonomic nervous system?

  • what is a ‘normal’ level of stress?

The more astute we become at understanding our own state of being, the easier it becomes to read that of others—with some surprising results.

Module Two: the interpersonal field

The impressions we make and receive

In part two we will explore how we relate to others, and how we are related to.

We will discuss our understanding of intimacy, empathy, tolerance and relationship, and also discuss:

  • how proficient are you at intuiting, and sensing a ‘vibe’?

  • what is it that shapes your needs?

  • how good are you at setting boundaries?

  • can you spot your behavioural patterns?

Module Three: the larger field of experience

How we feel about what we think

In part three we will look into what we believe about the world, the origins of those beliefs, and how they manifest in the felt sense.

We will discuss:

  • broader relationships, cooperation and community

  • cultural narratives

  • authenticity

  • witnessing suffering

And we’ll ask:

  • As your world enlarges, does your tolerance diminish?

Module Four: the universal experience

We all struggle in our attempts to ascend

In part four we will touch into the parts of ourselves we know and accept, and the parts of ourselves we deny despite clear evidence of their existence.

We will touch into:

  • the ego and the higher Self

  • growth and decay

  • mischief and chaos

  • the illusion of certainty

Module Five: the unknowable

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”  Albert Einstein

In this final part we’ll seek to integrate what we’ve learned — whilst acknowledging that our journey took place beneath an infinite sky.

Each person has their own understanding of what spirit means, and each persons spiritual journey is their own — sometimes guided (or contained) within established religious practice.

Spiritual practice is often overlooked entirely, as our culture places so much emphasis on productivity and material wealth as the principle goals.

We will discuss:

  • beliefs and faith

  • meditation

  • spiritual practice

  • your relationship to mortality

  • your relationship to the mystery
